Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship

Overview
The China Scholarship Council (CSC), entrusted by China’s Ministry of Education, administers this scholarship for international students and scholars at designated Chinese universities. Programs are offered across science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, literature, philosophy, fine arts, and related disciplines. Coverage
Tuition fees for major study and preparatory Chinese language study (up to one year). Monthly stipends: CNY 2,500 for undergraduates; CNY 3,000 for Master’s students and general scholars; CNY 3,500 for doctoral students and senior scholars. Comprehensive medical insurance: CNY 800 per person per year, or CNY 400 for programs lasting less than six months.
Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health. Age limits: undergraduates under 25; Master’s applicants under 35; doctoral applicants under 40; general scholars under 45; senior scholars under 50. Bachelor’s applicants must submit a valid China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) score report (www.csca.cn). Chinese-taught programs require HSK Level 3 (general/senior scholars, excluding Chinese-language majors) or HSK Level 4 (Master’s/doctoral programs). English-taught programs require IELTS or TOEFL as specified by the university.

Applicants must select a university and major from http://www.campuschina.org, obtain recommendation from their home-country dispatching authority (for bilateral programs) or nominated university (for university programs), and submit the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System at http://www.campuschina.org. Final selection is conducted by CSC and designated universities.

Required documents include: online application form; passport information page (valid for at least 12 months from study start); highest diploma or proof of expected graduation; academic transcripts (with notarised Chinese or English translations if needed); language certificates (HSK, IELTS, or TOEFL); CSCA score report (for bachelor’s applicants); pre-admission letter from the university; study or research plan; two recommendation letters (for postgraduate or senior-scholar applicants); arts/design portfolio (if applicable); guardian documents (if under 18); Foreigner Physical Examination Form (for stays over six months); and Certificate of Non-Criminal Record (issued within six months).
