China University of Petroleum (East China) New Student Scholarship, established in 2012, supports approximately 40 international master’s and doctoral students annually. First-class PhD awardees receive full tuition waiver, free on-campus single-room accommodation, and a CNY 10,000/year living allowance. Overview
Established in 2012, the China University of Petroleum (East China) New Student Scholarship supports around 40 international students enrolled in master’s or doctoral degree programmes each year. Off-campus residents do not receive accommodation subsidies. A refundable CNY 1,000 room deposit is required upon registration and forfeited if the student fails to register.
Coverage
First-Class (PhD): full tuition waiver, free on-campus single-room accommodation, and a living allowance of CNY 10,000 per year (CNY 1,000 per month for 10 months). Second-Class (PhD/Master): full tuition waiver and free on-campus accommodation (single room for PhD, double room for master’s). Third-Class (PhD/Master): 50% tuition waiver and 50% accommodation fee waiver (same room types).
Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health. Master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be under age 35. Doctoral applicants must hold a master’s degree and be under age 40. All master’s and doctoral programmes offered by the university are eligible.
Application
Application period: 1 May–1 July. Applicants must register at https://upc.17gz.org/member/login.do, select the University Scholarship Program, upload required documents, and submit online. Successful applicants receive an Admission Notice and JW202 form by DHL, then apply for an X1 visa and register at the university on schedule.

Valid passport (minimum 12-month validity); notarised highest diploma and academic transcripts (with certified translations if needed); language proficiency proof (HSK-6 for Chinese-taught programmes; TOEFL iBT ≥80, IELTS ≥6.0, or prior English-medium study certificate for English-taught programmes); research proposal or study plan (minimum 1,500 words); two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors; acceptance letter from a UPC supervisor; employment certificate or non-criminal record if graduated more than 12 months ago; optional supporting documents such as awards or publications. The Foreigner Physical Examination Form is required for visa application, not for scholarship submission.
