China University of Petroleum (East China) Qingdao Government Scholarship for New International Students

The Qingdao Government Scholarship is for new international students enrolling in long-term non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral programmes at China University of Petroleum (East China). It is funded by the Qingdao Municipal Government and provides partial tuition waivers or living allowances. Priority is given to petroleum and engineering majors taught in English or English/Chinese. Applicants must not hold any other Chinese government scholarship.

Overview

This scholarship supports new international students entering long-term non-degree (1 year), bachelor’s (2 years), master’s (3 years), or doctoral (3 years) study at China University of Petroleum (East China). Priority is given to petroleum and engineering fields: Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation (bachelor’s); Oil and Natural Gas Engineering, Geological Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology (master’s); Oil and Gas Well Engineering, Oil and Gas Field Development Engineering, Geological Resources and Geological Engineering (doctoral). Coverage

Long-term non-degree (1 year): partial tuition waiver of RMB 10,000 total. Bachelor’s (2 years): partial tuition waiver of RMB 20,000 total — RMB 10,000 in year one; RMB 10,000 in year two, subject to passing the annual review. Master’s and doctoral (3 years): living allowance of RMB 30,000 total — RMB 1,000 per month for 10 months each year. Recipients may also apply for university current-student scholarships where permitted.

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health. Long-term non-degree study must last at least two academic semesters. Applicants must not already hold any Chinese government scholarship.

Application

Applications are submitted online at https://upc.17gz.org/member/login.do. Hard copies are not required. The application window was listed as 1 April–1 July 2018; applicants must confirm current dates directly with the university. Admission and scholarship results are announced within approximately two weeks of receiving the online application. Admission documents are sent within about two weeks of the result; applicants must provide a postal address and contact details in advance. Scholarship winners must pay a room deposit of RMB 1,000 when instructed — it is refunded upon checkout if enrolment proceeds, or forfeited if the student does not register. Students must register at the university on time, or the offer and scholarship are treated as declined.

Long-term non-degree: passport valid for ≥12 months; highest diploma/degree and transcripts (in English or Chinese); Foreigner Physical Examination Form; employment certificate or non-criminal record if graduated more than 12 months ago. Bachelor’s: passport valid for ≥24 months; high-school diploma and transcripts; language certificate (HSK-4 for Chinese-taught; TOEFL iBT 60 / IELTS 5.0 / prior English-medium study certificate for English-taught); Foreigner Physical Examination Form; employment/non-criminal record if graduated more than 12 months ago; optional awards/honours. Master’s and doctoral: passport valid for ≥24 months; bachelor’s/master’s degree and transcripts; language certificate (HSK-4 for Chinese-taught; TOEFL iBT 80 / IELTS 6.0 / prior English-medium study certificate for English-taught); research proposal or study plan (≥1,500 words); two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors; supervisor acceptance letter from China University of Petroleum (East China); Foreigner Physical Examination Form; employment/non-criminal record if graduated more than 12 months ago; optional supporting certificates. Pre-graduation applicants may submit a pre-graduation or studentship letter.
