Chinese Government Scholarship of ZUST

Overview

The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) is planned annually by China’s Ministry of Education and administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). It supports international students, teachers, and scholars at designated Chinese higher education institutions across disciplines including science, technology, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, liberal arts, and philosophy. Pathways include bilateral programmes, CHINA/UNESCO Great Wall, Study in Asia, China/AUN, EU Chinese-language awards, SCO, Pacific Islands Forum, university postgraduate special programmes, provincial cooperative programmes, and Distinguished International Students awards.

Coverage

Full scholarships waive registration, tuition, laboratory, internship, and basic learning-material fees, and on-campus dormitory fees; provide a monthly living allowance; a one-off settlement subsidy after registration; outpatient medical service and comprehensive medical insurance; and a one-off inter-city travel subsidy (hard-seat or hard-berth train ticket) between entry port, language/preparatory campus, host university, and departure port on graduation. Partial scholarships cover one or more of these items, excluding settlement and inter-city travel subsidies. International airfare is self-funded unless specified otherwise in a bilateral agreement.

Eligibility

Applicants must be international students, teachers, or scholars seeking study or research at Chinese higher education institutions designated by the Ministry of Education. Each applicant may receive only one CGS award. Applicants must meet basic qualifications outlined in the official CSC Application Procedures and apply through the relevant dispatching authority (e.g., Chinese embassy/consulate, regional education department, or Chinese university).

Application

The general application period is January–April (applicants must confirm current deadlines with their dispatching authority). Applications are submitted online via http://laihua.csc.edu.cn, followed by printed forms and supporting documents submitted through the dispatching authority. Late submissions are not processed and materials are not returned. Undergraduate CGS recipients typically attend one to two years of preparatory Chinese and foundation courses unless exempted. Scholarship continuation is subject to annual review.

Required documents include: completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship; notarised diploma photocopies; academic transcripts; study plan or research proposal; health certificate; two recommendation letters; and original Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Original diplomas must be retained.
