Overview

Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), founded in 1920, is a leading national university in China and a member of the C9 League. The Chinese Government Scholarship at HIT is awarded to international students for full-time degree programmes. Applications must be submitted to HIT’s College of International Education between 15 October and 31 December each year; the postmark date is considered the application date.

Coverage

The scholarship covers: registration fee, tuition fee, and on-campus accommodation fee; comprehensive medical insurance (800 RMB per year); and a monthly stipend of 3,000 RMB for master’s degree candidates. Doctoral candidates receive a higher stipend (amount not specified in source). Students registering on or before the 15th of a month receive the full monthly stipend; those registering after the 15th receive half. Stipends cease during unauthorised absences from China exceeding 15 days (excluding official holidays) and during approved study suspension (e.g., for illness), though scholarship status may be reserved for up to one year.

Eligibility

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health. Master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be under 35 years old; doctoral applicants must hold a master’s degree and be under 40. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance and research ability. The scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarship.

Application

Applicants must submit a completed Chinese Government Scholarship application form (Type B; HIT university code 10213), highest diploma (notarised English or Chinese copy), transcripts (notarised English or Chinese copy), an 800-word study or research plan, two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors, a valid passport copy, a completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form (valid for 6 months), and proof of payment of a 60 USD / 400 RMB material assessment fee. All documents must be submitted in duplicate by post to HIT’s College of International Education.

Incomplete or inconsistent applications will be deemed invalid.
