Notice on Applications for the 2025 Peking University New Sinology Initiative Sino-Foreign Joint Doctoral Program (Advanced Study Program)

This scholarship supports foreign doctoral students and visiting scholars in the Sino-Foreign Cooperative Doctoral Program (Advanced Study Program) at Peking University. It is funded by the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation. The program is for research in China-related humanities and social sciences and typically lasts one semester to two academic years. Participants do not take regular courses unless approved by their supervisors.

Overview

The Sino-Foreign Cooperative Doctoral Program (Advanced Candidate Program) supports registered doctoral students from foreign universities to conduct joint research and write dissertations in China-related humanities and social sciences at Peking University. It is part of the New Sinology Program established by the Center for Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation.

Coverage/Benefits

The scholarship covers accommodation and comprehensive medical insurance for international students. Tuition, airfare, living allowance, and settlement allowance are not covered.

Eligibility

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign passports, formally registered as doctoral students at a foreign university, and under 50 years old. They must be in good health, abide by Chinese laws and university regulations, and have Chinese language proficiency at HSK Level 3 or above.

Application

Applicants must submit two online applications: one via Peking University’s International Student Online Service System (www.studyatpku.com, code CSP-SV), and another via the New Sinology Program website (http://www.chinese.cn/page/#/pcpage/csp). Paper documents must be mailed before the deadline.

Documents

Required documents include: Application Form for Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Doctoral Program; doctoral study certificate and transcripts (in Chinese or English, or notarized translation); two letters of recommendation; HSK transcript; master’s thesis abstract and other research results; doctoral dissertation abstract (if any); personal statement and research plan (≥1000 words, in Chinese or English); and passport copy.
