Notice on Applications for the Peking University “New Sinology Initiative 2025” Program for Doctoral Studies in China

Overview
The New Sinology Program PhD Program in China provides financial support for outstanding master’s degree graduates from abroad to pursue doctoral degrees in China-related humanities and social sciences at Peking University. The standard duration is four years.
Coverage/Benefits
The scholarship covers accommodation and comprehensive medical insurance for international students. Tuition, airfare, living allowance, and settlement allowance are not covered.
Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals holding valid foreign passports, physically and mentally healthy, of good character, and without criminal record. They must hold a master’s degree from an institution recognized by China’s Ministry of Education and demonstrate Chinese language proficiency at HSK Level 6 (210 points, including ≥65 in writing); those who have taken HSK Levels 7–9 may submit corresponding scores. English proficiency is required for English-taught programs.
Application
Applicants must submit two online applications: one via the New Sinology Program website (http://www.chinese.cn/page/#/pcpage/csp), and another via Peking University’s International Student Online Service System (www.studyatpku.com, code CSP-PHD). Original documents must be mailed after admission notification.
Documents
Required documents include: undergraduate and master’s degree certificates and transcripts (in Chinese or English, or notarized translation); personal statement (~3000 words, in Chinese); letter of commitment; two letters of recommendation; HSK transcript; master’s thesis abstract and other research results; passport copy; and application form for the New Sinology Program Doctoral Degree Program.
