Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health, hold a master’s degree or above, be no older than 45 years, and have an average score of 75 or above at master’s level. For Chinese-taught programmes, HSK Level 5 (180 points) is required; for English-taught programmes, TOEFL (60 points) or IELTS (5.5) is required. Applicants must not have received other Chinese government scholarships.
Application
Applications are accepted from December 1 to March 15 each year. Applicants must first secure a letter of acceptance from a doctoral supervisor at Northwest University, complete online registration, and submit materials electronically and by post.

Required documents include the application form, passport copy, graduation certificate and transcript, criminal record certificate (notarised translation if needed), physical examination form, language proficiency certificate, study and research plan (≥800 words), two recommendation letters, supervisor’s acceptance letter, and evidence of patents or academic papers.
