Southwest University President Scholarship

The Southwest University President Scholarship is funded by Southwest University to support international students pursuing undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral degrees. It offers two types: Type I covers tuition, registration, insurance, and a monthly living allowance; Type II covers only tuition, registration, and insurance.

Overview

Southwest University offers the President Scholarship to promote mutual understanding between China and other countries. It supports international students enrolled in full-time undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, or visiting scholar programmes.

Coverage

Type I Scholarship covers: registration and tuition fees (including experiment and internship expenses), comprehensive medical insurance, and a monthly living allowance (1,100 RMB for bachelor’s and visiting students; 1,400 RMB for master’s; 1,700 RMB for doctoral). Type II Scholarship covers registration and tuition fees (including experiment and internship expenses) and comprehensive medical insurance only.

Eligibility

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health and not receiving any other scholarship. Bachelor’s applicants must have graduated from senior high school and be under 30; master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be under 35; doctoral applicants must hold a master’s degree and be under 40; visiting students must be at least in their second year of undergraduate study or hold a bachelor’s degree and be under 45.

Application

Applicants may apply either by mail or online. For mail-in: download the Application Form and Physical Examination Record from http://gjxy.swu.edu.cn, complete and notarise required documents, undergo physical examination (valid 6 months), and post all materials to Southwest University’s International Students Admission Office. For online: register at http://issic.swu.edu.cn, complete the Physical Examination Form, upload documents, and submit. A 500 RMB application fee is required upon admission.

Required documents include: Application Form (in duplicate); notarised photocopy of highest diploma or pre-graduation certificate; transcripts (with notarised Chinese or English translations if not in those languages); 800-word study plan (bachelor’s) or research plan (master’s/doctoral); two recommendation letters (for master’s/doctoral); language proficiency certificates (HSK, IELTS, TOEFL, or university-issued); published papers or academic achievements (if any); two copies of the Physical Examination Record; two passport-sized photos (white background, name and major written on back); passport copy.
