Tan Kah Kee Scholarships at Xiamen University
The Tan Kah Kee Scholarship at Xiamen University is funded by the Xiamen Tan Kah Kee Education Foundation and supports outstanding international students of Chinese descent—especially from Maritime Silk Road regions—as well as eligible Jimei-alumni descendants from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, insurance, and a living allowance of RMB 70,000, 60,000, or 50,000 per year for doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students respectively. Renewal requires annual academic review.

Overview
The scholarship honours Tan Kah Kee’s educational legacy. Only applicants already admitted to a degree programme at Xiamen University are considered.
Coverage
Covers full tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, health insurance, and a living allowance. Doctoral students receive RMB 70,000 per year for up to 3 or 4 years; master’s students receive RMB 60,000 per year for up to 2 or 3 years; undergraduate students receive RMB 50,000 per year for up to 4 or 5 years.
Eligibility
Applicants must be international students of Chinese descent holding valid foreign passports and in good health, especially from Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Africa, and Europe along Maritime Silk Road routes. Jimei-alumni descendants from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan are also eligible. Mainland/HK/Macao/Taiwan residents applying as international bachelor’s students must have held a valid foreign passport for at least four years and resided abroad for at least two years within the past four years (as of 30 April 2018). Applicants must abide by Chinese laws, support the One China principle, and not hold any other scholarship.
Application
Submit online Tan Kah Kee and International Student application forms (application fee RMB 400, non-refundable); mail hard copies—including ethnic Chinese certification letter and physical examination form—to the Xiamen University Admissions Office. Shortlisted candidates are reviewed by the Foundation in mid-June.

Passport copy; highest diploma and transcripts; two recommendation letters; personal statement or research proposal; language proficiency certificate (e.g., TOEFL/IELTS); CV; for undergraduates, a short video clip (≤3 minutes) introducing oneself in English or Mandarin.
