The UCAS Scholarship for International Students is offered by the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences to support non-Chinese nationals pursuing Master’s or Doctoral degrees, joint programmes, or academic visits at UCAS faculties or Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) institutes. It includes full and partial awards covering tuition, stipend, accommodation, and medical insurance. Since 2016, it has primarily supported postgraduate students.

Overview
The UCAS Scholarship for International Students sponsors non-Chinese nationals to pursue Master’s or Doctoral degrees, attend courses, conduct research, or make academic visits at UCAS faculties or CAS institutes. It also supports international graduate students from foreign universities participating in joint programmes. The scholarship comprises full and partial awards. Full awards cover tuition waiver, monthly stipend, basic accommodation (for Beijing-based awardees), and medical insurance. Partial awards cover some of these items.
Coverage
1. Tuition fee exemption: RMB 40,000/year for Doctoral students; RMB 30,000/year for Master’s students; RMB 3,000/month for senior visiting students; RMB 2,600/month for regular visiting students. 2. Monthly stipend: RMB 2,500 for Doctoral, senior visiting, and joint programme students; RMB 2,000 for Master’s and regular visiting students. Host supervisors and faculties/institutes provide additional research assistantship so total monthly stipend is no less than RMB 3,500 for Doctoral, senior visiting, and joint programme students, and no less than RMB 3,000 for Master’s and regular visiting students. 3. Accommodation: Basic on-campus accommodation is provided for full scholarship awardees affiliated with Beijing-based faculties/institutes. Awardees at CAS institutes outside Beijing receive basic accommodation during concentrated study at UCAS; host institutes assist with accommodation during their stay, and awardees bear related costs as required. 4. Medical insurance: Premium is RMB 800/year or RMB 400/half-year. Coverage details are available at www.lxbx.net.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet UCAS international student admission criteria, obtain acceptance from a UCAS faculty/CAS institute host supervisor, demonstrate appropriate attitude toward learning and research, and have outstanding academic performance.
Application
Applicants must first check eligibility, then identify and secure agreement from an eligible UCAS faculty/CAS institute host supervisor. Both admission and scholarship applications must be submitted together via the online system at http://adis.ucas.ac.cn.

Required documents include: passport valid for at least two years (personal and validity pages only); 2-inch full-face photo; CV with research experience summary; scanned original degree certificates; scanned original transcripts; proof of English or Chinese proficiency; detailed research proposal; up to five published academic papers (title pages and abstracts only); two signed reference letters (not from host supervisor), on official letterhead with contact details; and Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

- •Master’s candidates must be aged 30 or under.
- •Doctoral candidates must be aged 35 or under.
- •Joint programme candidates have no age limit.
- •Regular and senior visiting students must be aged 40 or under.
- •Applicants must be proficient in English or Chinese. Non-native English speakers must submit unexpired TOEFL (≥90) or IELTS (≥6.5). Exemptions apply if: native language is English; undergraduate major courses were taught in English or Chinese (as stated on transcripts); or New HSK Band 5 passed with over 200 points.
- •Joint programme applicants must currently study at a foreign higher education institution.
- •The foreign institution must have a signed collaboration and exchange agreement with CAS, UCAS, or a CAS institute.
- •Students currently studying at Chinese higher institutions are ineligible, except for those graduating in the current year.
