University of Science and Technology of China CAS "The Belt and Road" Master Fellowship

The 'Belt and Road' Master Fellowship is part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) International Outreach Initiative. It supports master’s degree study at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), University of CAS, or CAS institutes for students from Belt and Road countries.
Coverage
Funding lasts up to three years: up to one year of coursework and centralised training at USTC (including four months of compulsory Chinese language and culture), followed by research and dissertation work at USTC colleges or schools. Benefits include full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend of RMB 4,000 covering accommodation, local transport, health insurance, and basic living expenses.
Eligibility
Applicants must be citizens of a Belt and Road country other than China, aged no more than 30 on 31 December 2018, and hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Non-native English speakers must provide valid TOEFL ≥90 or IELTS ≥6.5, unless they are native English speakers, have completed a prior degree taught in English or Chinese (as stated on transcripts), or hold HSK level 3 or 4. Applicants must not hold any other scholarship at the time of application or during the fellowship period.

Required documents: CAS Belt and Road Master Fellowship application form; photocopy of ordinary passport valid for at least one year; study/research proposal (≥800 words); personal resume; two recommendation letters from full or associate professors (with phone and email); photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form; Chinese or English language certificate (valid HSK, IELTS, TOEFL, or other proof — native English speakers exempted); notarised bachelor’s degree certificate and academic transcripts. Current students, recent graduates without certificates, or employed applicants must provide official status or release documents. Non-Chinese/English documents require notarised Chinese or English translations.
