The University of Science and Technology of China offers the Dean’s Fellowship Programme between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World for doctoral students from developing countries. It covers full tuition and a monthly living allowance of 7000 RMB before and 8000 RMB after passing the doctoral qualification examination, for up to four years.

Overview
This joint scholarship by CAS and ASD supports doctoral studies at USTC, UCAS, or CAS institutes. Funding lasts up to four years and includes staged study: one year of centralised training including Chinese language courses, followed by research and dissertation work.
Coverage/Benefits
Covers full tuition and a monthly living allowance of 7000 RMB before passing the doctoral qualification examination and 8000 RMB thereafter. Health insurance is included. Accommodation, airfare, and settlement allowance are not covered.
Eligibility
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, aged ≤35 years old, hold or expect to obtain a master’s degree by 1 September, provide proof of English or Chinese proficiency, commit to full-time study, and agree to return to their home country after completion. Those already studying for a PhD in China or applying to two universities simultaneously are ineligible.
Application
Applications were accepted from 15 December 2017 to 31 March 2018. Applicants must complete online applications via both the CAS fellowship system and USTC’s international student portal.
Documents
Required documents include the admission application form, passport copy, notarised degree certificate and transcripts, two recommendation letters, research proposal, CV, published paper copy, language proficiency certificate, and physical examination form. All documents must be in English or Chinese.
