About Kunming Medical University

Founded in 1933 as a medical programme within Donglu University, Kunming Medical University became an independent institution in 1956 and adopted its current name in 2012. It is based across three campuses in Kunming—Chenggong (the main campus), Renmin West Road, and Pingzheng—covering 98.8 hectares. The university offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes in medicine and health sciences, having gained doctoral degree authority in 1998. It enrolls over 20,000 full-time students, including more than 500 international students, alongside a large cohort of part-time learners. Its teaching and research activities are supported by staff distributed across the main campus and affiliated hospitals. The university focuses on training medical professionals for Yunnan Province and border regions, with a long-standing emphasis on community and rural health service needs.
