Soochow University is located in Suzhou, historically known as “Paradise on Earth.” It is a key comprehensive provincial university in Jiangsu and one of China’s top 100 universities under Project 211 of the Ministry of Education. Named after the city (historically spelled Soochow; also written Suzhou University / Suda in pinyin), it was founded in 1900. In 1952, the College of Liberal Arts and Science of Soochow University, Southern Jiangsu College of Culture and Education (formed from Jiangsu Provincial College of Education, National College of Social Education, and Wuxi Junior College of Sinology), and the Department of Mathematics and Physics of Jiangnan University merged into Southern Jiangsu Teachers’ College, later renamed Jiangsu Teachers’ College on the old Soochow University campus. In 1982, with State Council approval, Soochow University was reestablished to replace Jiangsu Teachers’ College. In 1995, 1997, and 2000, with Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Provincial Government approval, Suzhou College of Sericulture, Suzhou Institute of Silk Textile Technology, and Suzhou Medical College merged into Soochow University. The university covers a wide range of disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, natural science, engineering, agriculture, medical science, and management. programs of primary disciplines, eighty-five Ph.D

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University opened in 2006 in Suzhou, a historic city in China’s Jiangsu province. It operates as a joint venture between Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool. All undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are delivered in English by academic staff from more than fifty countries. The university offers thirty-three bachelor’s and twenty-nine master’s degree programmes. Undergraduate students graduate with dual awards: a degree certified by China’s Ministry of Education and another from the University of Liverpool. Postgraduate students receive a University of Liverpool degree. The campus sits within Suzhou’s Dushu Lake Higher Education Town, supporting teaching, research, and student life through integrated facilities.
