Central South University stands in Changsha, a historic city in south-central China. Formed in 2000 through the merger of three institutions—including a pioneering medical school founded in 1914—the university brings together strengths in mineral resources, materials science, medicine, civil engineering, and transportation. It offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes across eleven academic fields, with 31 colleges and institutes, a graduate school, and three top-tier affiliated hospitals. Around 52,400 students study here, supported by approximately 20,000 staff. The university hosts 24 postdoctoral research stations and maintains academic links with more than 200 overseas universities and research organisations.

Changsha University of Science & Technology (CUST) is an engineering-centered multidisciplinary university covering engineering, science, management, economics, liberal arts, and law, with strengths in communications, electric power, and water conservancy. It is jointly established by the Central Government and Hunan Provincial Government, mainly under Hunan Province. Campuses: Jinpenling and Yuntang, totaling 210.56 hectares (about 3,158.4 mu) with 1,173,000 m² floor space. Fixed assets about 1.9 billion yuan (about US$ 291.1 million), including teaching and research equipment worth 285 million yuan. Library collection: more than 3,628,700 books. Gigabit campus network. Multimedia classrooms and language labs seat 16,642 students. Structure: 17 schools and departments; 1 post-doctoral workstation; 3 disciplines and 15 sub-disciplines for doctoral degrees; 18 disciplines and 104 sub-disciplines for master’s degrees. It may confer master’s degrees to applicants with equivalent academic attainments, plus master of engineering, MBA, and five other professional master’s types. It has 7 provincial/ministerial key disciplines, 21 provincial key specialties, 13 provincial/ministerial key labs, 7 provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences research bases, 6 provincial demonstration laboratories for basic courses, and 20 provincial excellent bases for educational practice.
