Jiangsu University (JU) was formed in August 2001 by combining the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (a key university), Zhenjiang Medical College, and Zhenjiang Teachers’ College, with Ministry of Education approval. It is in Zhenjiang beside the Yangtze River. Its origin traces to San-jiang Normal School founded in Nanjing in 1902. It has 24 schools and 83 undergraduate programs across Engineering, Science, Medicine, Literature, Economics, Law, Management, Education, and History; 8 post-doctoral research stations; 9 first-level disciplines for doctoral degrees; 42 Ph.D. programs; 167 master’s programs; 3 national key academic disciplines (1 under cultivation); 2 Jiangsu special-advantage disciplines; 4 Jiangsu provincial key primary disciplines; 13 Jiangsu provincial key disciplines; 7 professional master’s categories; and 26 ME fields. Campus: 3,045 mu; buildings 1.4 million m²; teaching and experimental equipment worth 500 million yuan; 4 national top-quality courses; 2 national excellent teaching groups; 1 national engineering technology research center; 1 national experiment teaching demonstration center; 2 national pilot zones for talent cultivation innovation; 1 Ministry of Education key lab; 12 provincial experiment teaching demonstration centers; 37 ministry-level key labs and engineering technology research centers. Jiangsu University of Science and Technology sits in Zhenjiang, a riverside city with deep historical roots along the Yangtze. It evolved from technical colleges founded in the late 1930s and gained university status in 2001. The institution delivers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, with doctoral training across eleven disciplines and master’s programmes in seventy-one subject areas. Its academic focus centres on engineering, particularly naval architecture, marine engineering, and sericulture — each supported by a dedicated post-doctoral research centre. Faculty include members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and researchers recognised at provincial and national levels. While most instruction is in Chinese, a selection of degree programmes is taught in English for international students.
