Dalian Jiaotong University (DJTU) was founded in 1956 as Dalian Railway Vehicle Manufacturing School. In 1958 it became Dalian Railway Institute under the Ministry of Railways. In February 2000 it moved under Liaoning Province with co-construction by central and local authorities (mainly local management). In May 2004 the Ministry of Education approved the current name. The university focuses on railway transport and interdisciplinary software talent training. Campus area: 862,000 m² across two campuses in Shahekou and Lushunkou Districts of Dalian. Building area: 555,000 m². Teaching instruments and equipment valued at RMB 260 million. Library: 43,000 m², with 1,402,321 document volumes and 22,247 kinds of Chinese and foreign electronic journals. Structure: a Graduate School and 13 secondary schools awarding bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Degree capacity includes 2 mobile post-doctoral stations for first-level disciplines, 2 first-level doctoral programs, 7 second-level doctoral programs, 12 first-level master’s programs, 44 second-level master’s programs, 9 engineering master’s fields, and 2 master’s majors for university teachers. Provincial first-level key disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and Transportation Engineering (covering 12 second-level disciplines). Undergraduate: 51 majors across Engineering, Management Science, Natural Science, Literature, Economics, Law, and Arts.

Dalian Maritime University (DMU) was founded in 1909. It is a major maritime university and the only key maritime institution under China’s Ministry of Transport. It is recognized by the International Maritime Organization as a center for maritime education and training. Programs: 6 post-doctoral research centers, 6 primary-discipline doctoral programs, 32 subordinate-discipline doctoral programs, 18 primary-discipline master’s programs, 97 subordinate-discipline master’s programs, and 51 undergraduate programs. About 19 teaching and research units include Navigation College, Marine Engineering College, Information Science and Technology College, Transportation and Management College, Environmental Science and Engineering College, Transportation Equipment and Ocean Engineering College, Law School, Foreign Languages College, Public Management and Humanities College, Department of Mathematics, and Department of Physics. About 20,000 students. More than 90,000 graduates have been trained at DMU, many working in China’s shipping industry. Facilities include maritime science buildings, a survival training center, harbor basin, library, swimming pool, planetarium, a training dock, over 100 laboratories (including a full-mission ship-handling simulator and an engine-room simulator), and two ocean-going training vessels

Dalian Medical University was founded in 1947. The campus has a long coastline and a natural bathing beach. After decades of development it is a multi-disciplinary medical university that also offers science, engineering, management, arts, and law alongside medicine. About 14,700 students, including 4,100 postgraduates and 1,300 international medical degree students. More than 7,500 teaching faculty and medical staff, nearly 1,100 doctoral and graduate supervisors. Three directly affiliated hospitals in Dalian with more than 5,200 beds. The university works with 109 universities and 38 research institutions in 39 countries and regions. It received an A-level rating in undergraduate teaching quality from the Ministry of Education and was among the first 30 universities authorized to teach undergraduate medicine in English. It is listed by the WHO, and degrees are recognized in many countries

Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is a national key university under the Ministry of Education, in the coastal city of Dalian. It is strong in science and technology and also covers economics, management, applied liberal arts, foreign languages, and social sciences. It has a graduate school, 7 faculties, and 5 colleges, with about 32,000 full-time students. DUT has academic agreements with more than 120 higher education or research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions. The School of International Cultural Exchanges handles enrollment, teaching, and management of international students. About 6,000 students from 102 countries have studied at DUT for degrees or Chinese language training

Dongbei University of Finance and Economics was established in 1952 in Dalian, a coastal city in northeast China. It is a specialist university focused on finance, economics, and business disciplines, with over 20,000 students across its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. The Global Institute of Management and Economics (GIME) delivers English-taught international programmes and hosts more than 1,000 students alongside a faculty of over 60 academics, many with doctoral degrees from universities including the London School of Economics, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Sydney.
