Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University opened in 2006 in Suzhou, a historic city in China’s Jiangsu province. It operates as a joint venture between Xi’an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool. All undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are delivered in English by academic staff from more than fifty countries. The university offers thirty-three bachelor’s and twenty-nine master’s degree programmes. Undergraduate students graduate with dual awards: a degree certified by China’s Ministry of Education and another from the University of Liverpool. Postgraduate students receive a University of Liverpool degree. The campus sits within Suzhou’s Dushu Lake Higher Education Town, supporting teaching, research, and student life through integrated facilities.

Xuzhou Medical University (XZMU) is in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province (about three hours by train to Beijing or Shanghai). It is administered by the Jiangsu Provincial Government. Founded in 1958, it is a center for medical education, service, and research in northern Jiangsu and the Huaihai Economic Zone. Since 2001 it has repeatedly ranked among the top fifty medical colleges nationwide in comprehensive strength. In 2005 it received an “Excellence” rating in the Ministry of Education Undergraduate Course Teaching Level Assessment and began educating international students. In 2013 it was authorized to grant doctoral degrees. There are four campuses covering over 1,200 mu; the second Main Campus extension is in use. The university has fourteen affiliated hospitals (two under direct administration), five clinical institutes, and more than eighty clinical teaching bases. In 2007 two of its papers were selected among China’s First “One Hundred Most Influential and Excellent International Dissertations.” It offers 24 undergraduate specialties across major medical fields, including Clinical Medicine, Anesthesiology, Optometry, Medical Imageology, Medical Rehabilitation, Preventive Medicine, Nutriology, Stomatology, and Oral Restoration.
