Bohai University (BU) is a comprehensive university under the Liaoning Province government, located in Jinzhou, a coastal city in Liaoning Province, China. The campus covers about 1,500 Chinese mu (about 1,000,000 square meters), with floor area over 520,000 square meters. There are 16 colleges offering 44 bachelor’s programs and 10 associate-degree programs. Graduate offerings include 16 Level-1 master’s programs, 71 Level-2 master’s programs, and 5 professional master’s programs, spanning philosophy, economics, law, education, humanities, history, science, engineering, management, and arts. More than 25,000 postgraduates and full-time college students are enrolled. There are about 1,200 professional teachers, including about 200 professors and 400 doctoral degree holders. Nearly 100 teachers hold province- or state-level titles (including Changjiang Scholars and other national or Liaoning talent designations)

China Medical University (CMU) was among the first Chinese medical schools authorized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to recruit international students. It is also authorized by MOE to teach medicine in English for international students. CMU began recruiting Chinese Government Scholarship students in 1976 and started an English-medium MBBS program in 2005. An America Class MBBS track began in 2010 for students who already hold a U.S. bachelor’s degree. There are more than 400 international students from the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe. Levels include doctoral (Chinese), postgraduate (Chinese), undergraduate (English, Chinese, and Japanese & Chinese), and visiting students (Chinese). International medical education was first managed by the International Exchange Center. In 2010, the International Education School was set up to handle admission, teaching, and student services. The English-medium MBBS program is described as well developed within China. With a new campus and improved teaching and living conditions, CMU plans to gradually increase international enrollment

Dalian Jiaotong University (DJTU) was founded in 1956 as Dalian Railway Vehicle Manufacturing School. In 1958 it became Dalian Railway Institute under the Ministry of Railways. In February 2000 it moved under Liaoning Province with co-construction by central and local authorities (mainly local management). In May 2004 the Ministry of Education approved the current name. The university focuses on railway transport and interdisciplinary software talent training. Campus area: 862,000 m² across two campuses in Shahekou and Lushunkou Districts of Dalian. Building area: 555,000 m². Teaching instruments and equipment valued at RMB 260 million. Library: 43,000 m², with 1,402,321 document volumes and 22,247 kinds of Chinese and foreign electronic journals. Structure: a Graduate School and 13 secondary schools awarding bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Degree capacity includes 2 mobile post-doctoral stations for first-level disciplines, 2 first-level doctoral programs, 7 second-level doctoral programs, 12 first-level master’s programs, 44 second-level master’s programs, 9 engineering master’s fields, and 2 master’s majors for university teachers. Provincial first-level key disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and Transportation Engineering (covering 12 second-level disciplines). Undergraduate: 51 majors across Engineering, Management Science, Natural Science, Literature, Economics, Law, and Arts.

Dalian Maritime University (DMU) was founded in 1909. It is a major maritime university and the only key maritime institution under China’s Ministry of Transport. It is recognized by the International Maritime Organization as a center for maritime education and training. Programs: 6 post-doctoral research centers, 6 primary-discipline doctoral programs, 32 subordinate-discipline doctoral programs, 18 primary-discipline master’s programs, 97 subordinate-discipline master’s programs, and 51 undergraduate programs. About 19 teaching and research units include Navigation College, Marine Engineering College, Information Science and Technology College, Transportation and Management College, Environmental Science and Engineering College, Transportation Equipment and Ocean Engineering College, Law School, Foreign Languages College, Public Management and Humanities College, Department of Mathematics, and Department of Physics. About 20,000 students. More than 90,000 graduates have been trained at DMU, many working in China’s shipping industry. Facilities include maritime science buildings, a survival training center, harbor basin, library, swimming pool, planetarium, a training dock, over 100 laboratories (including a full-mission ship-handling simulator and an engine-room simulator), and two ocean-going training vessels

Dalian Medical University was founded in 1947. The campus has a long coastline and a natural bathing beach. After decades of development it is a multi-disciplinary medical university that also offers science, engineering, management, arts, and law alongside medicine. About 14,700 students, including 4,100 postgraduates and 1,300 international medical degree students. More than 7,500 teaching faculty and medical staff, nearly 1,100 doctoral and graduate supervisors. Three directly affiliated hospitals in Dalian with more than 5,200 beds. The university works with 109 universities and 38 research institutions in 39 countries and regions. It received an A-level rating in undergraduate teaching quality from the Ministry of Education and was among the first 30 universities authorized to teach undergraduate medicine in English. It is listed by the WHO, and degrees are recognized in many countries

Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is a national key university under the Ministry of Education, in the coastal city of Dalian. It is strong in science and technology and also covers economics, management, applied liberal arts, foreign languages, and social sciences. It has a graduate school, 7 faculties, and 5 colleges, with about 32,000 full-time students. DUT has academic agreements with more than 120 higher education or research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions. The School of International Cultural Exchanges handles enrollment, teaching, and management of international students. About 6,000 students from 102 countries have studied at DUT for degrees or Chinese language training

Dongbei University of Finance and Economics was established in 1952 in Dalian, a coastal city in northeast China. It is a specialist university focused on finance, economics, and business disciplines, with over 20,000 students across its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. The Global Institute of Management and Economics (GIME) delivers English-taught international programmes and hosts more than 1,000 students alongside a faculty of over 60 academics, many with doctoral degrees from universities including the London School of Economics, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Sydney. Jinzhou Medical University (JZMU) is in the coastal city of Jinzhou and is authorized by China’s Ministry of Education to offer MBBS in English. It cooperates with universities in the US, UK, Russia, Australia, and elsewhere. About 1,000 international students from nearly 40 countries study there, ranking third in the province for international degree students. JZMU passed the Ministry of Education undergraduate teaching evaluation in 2007, gained Chinese Government Scholarship eligibility in 2014, and passed MOE evaluation for English-medium MBBS teaching in 2013. It is recognized by WHO and ECFMG and was listed in Avicenna Medical Schools in 2006. Campus: nearly 1 million square meters. Liaoning Shihua University (LSHU) was founded in 1950 as China’s first petroleum institute. It is a multidisciplinary university with a strong focus on petroleum and petrochemistry, and also covers engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and education. The campus is in Fushun, about a 10-minute drive from Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province. It covers more than 130 hectares and has over 25,000 students at various levels. Facilities include a library, teaching and laboratory buildings, a stadium, language and computer labs, multimedia rooms, and campus internet. The library holds about 2.9 million volumes; teaching and research equipment is valued at about 0.3 billion RMB. There are 928 professional teachers: 40.6% hold senior academic or technical titles, 70.6% hold master’s degrees, and 197 serve as doctoral or master’s supervisors. Key subject areas include petroleum engineering, petrochemistry, materials chemistry, environmental engineering, chemical machinery, control engineering, information engineering, and economic management. The university has 20 schools and colleges, including petroleum engineering, petrochemical technology, chemistry and materials, environment and biology, mechanical engineering, information and control engineering, computer and communication, and economic management. Degree offerings include 2 joint doctoral programs, 58 master’s programs, 11 engineering master’s programs, an MBA, 50 undergraduate majors, and 26 vocational majors. Since founding, LSHU has graduated more than 80,000 students, many of whom work in China’s petrochemical and coal-mining industries. In 2010, Liaoning Provincial Government, China National Petroleum Corporation, Sinopec Group, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation agreed to jointly support the university. International education began in 1985. The university enrolls nearly 1,000 students from countries including the USA, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Russia, and Mongolia, offering Chinese language study as well as undergraduate programs, with some bilingual and English-taught teaching

Liaoning University is a comprehensive university covering Chinese language and literature, history, philosophy, economics, law, foreign languages, art, natural science, engineering, and management. It is a Project 211 key university under the Ministry of Education. The university has 25 colleges, 62 undergraduate majors, 160 master’s disciplines, and authority to award 62 doctorates. International students have been admitted since 1965, from more than 94 countries including the USA, Japan, Russia, Korea, Italy, the UK, and France. Over 8,000 long-term and 3,000 short-term international students have studied here; about 700 international students are on campus at a time

Northeastern University (NEU) was founded on 23 April 1923. It is affiliated with the Ministry of Education and located in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province. It is a multidisciplinary university with a strong engineering focus, comprising a Graduate School, Qinhuangdao Branch, School of Continuing Education, 12 schools, and a Department of Physical Education. Programs: 55 majors; master’s degrees in 171 subjects plus MBA, MPA, and Engineering Master; doctorates in 81 subjects; 13 postdoctoral stations. Staff: 2,227 teachers and researchers, including 5 CAS/CAE academicians. Students: about 2,300 PhD students, 5,000 graduate students, and 22,200 undergraduates. International exchange: academic programs with 140 universities and institutes in 30 countries and regions; about 705 scholars invited as professors/adjuncts; more than 4,000 staff sent abroad for study, lectures, or cooperative research. Foreign students have been enrolled since 1950. The university can recruit Chinese Government Scholarship students independently. Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU) is in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning in northeast China — a city with a long history and a modern heavy-industry base, often called China’s “Aviation City,” with multiple aeronautics manufacturers and research institutes. Global aerospace firms such as Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, and Cessna have manufacturing sites there; other advanced industries include automotive (BMW) and chemicals. Founded in 1952 and located in Shenyang’s Northern College Town, the campus covers about 1,200,000 m² with 600,000 m² of buildings. Students and teachers designed and built an aircraft that flew as early as 1958. Enrollment about 20,000; staff about 1,600 including 800 academic teachers, with 113 professors and 271 associate professors. Shenyang Jianzhu University (SJZU) is the only comprehensive university in Liaoning Province that prioritizes civil engineering and architecture while also covering engineering, arts, administration, natural science, agronomy, and law. The campus covers about 1 million square meters, with roughly 440,000 square meters of building space. Campus planning emphasizes human-centered design and balance between people and nature. A 756-meter corridor—described as the longest in Asia—links teaching, laboratory, living, and administration areas. SJZU has 17 schools and about 1,400 professional faculty, including nearly 400 professors and associate professors. Enrollment is about 16,000 undergraduates, postgraduates, and international students. Over the past 10 years, its graduate employment rate has ranked at the top among universities in Liaoning Province. Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Mechanical Engineering are provincial key subjects. Materials Science and Engineering is classed as a key subject with special advantage in Liaoning. The university also has 11 province-level major subjects, 16 province-level key laboratories, and 6 province-level engineering and technological research centers. In the past five years, SJZU obtained 2,255 scientific and technological research projects and about 554 million yuan in research grants and funds. Shenyang University of Technology (SUT) is in Shenyang, northeast China. It is an engineering-oriented comprehensive university covering engineering, science, economy, management, liberal arts, law, and philosophy. Its predecessor, Shenyang Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College (founded 1949), was renamed SUT in 1985 and was formerly affiliated with the State Ministry of Mechanical Industry. Since 1998 it has been jointly built by the central and local governments, mainly managed by Liaoning Province. SUT has four campuses: Central Campus, Xingshun Campus, Science and Technology Park, and Liaoyang Campus. The main Central Campus is in the Shenyang Economic and Technological Development Area, a center for equipment manufacturing. Total area is about 1,596,000 square meters with about 624,000 square meters of building space. The university has 20 schools, 3 teaching departments, and 2 engineering practice centers, with 50 undergraduate programs and 20 three-year programs. Registered students total 31,315, including 16,087 undergraduates, 2,778 postgraduates, 1,831 three-year students, 7,236 on-the-job students, and 3,383 students of the Engineering School of SUT (independent college). Shenyang Urban Construction University (SYUCU), formerly Urban Construction College of Shenyang Architectural University, was founded in July 2000. In 2013 the Ministry of Education approved it as an independent full-time undergraduate university. It has more than 11,000 registered students and offers degree programs in Architecture Design, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Road Traffic, Project Management, Mechanical Manufacturing, Electronic Information, and Art Design. The campus is in Hunnan District, Shenyang, in a university town that also includes Shenyang Institute of Science and Technology, Haihua College of Liaoning Normal University, Xinglin College of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Northeastern University, Shenyang Sport University, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, and the new campus of Shenyang Conservatory of Music. Nearby are Liaoning Provincial Library, Liaoning Science and Technology Museum, and Liaoning Provincial Museum. The campus covers 62 hectares with more than 300,000 square meters of buildings. Facilities include a circular main building of about 50,000 square meters with multimedia classrooms; a lakeside library of about 19,000 square meters with 800,000 books; Second Teaching Building and laboratories covering about 280,000 square meters; an International Communication Centre of about 140,000 square meters; and a Student Activity Centre of about 8,000 square meters
