Hebei Medical University is in Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei Province. It is a provincial key university with more than 100 years of history. Its predecessor was Beiyang Medical School, established by the Qing government in 1894, making it one of the oldest public universities in modern China. Main subjects include Clinical Medicine, Clinical Discipline of Chinese and Western Integrative Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Stomatology, Pharmacy, and Biology. There are 14 undergraduate majors, 68 authorized postgraduate subjects, and 42 authorized doctoral subjects. Postdoctoral stations exist for Biology, Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, and Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine is a national key discipline. Faculty include 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; 39 experts with State Council special allowance; 31 provincial outstanding experts; 99 middle-aged and young experts with outstanding national/provincial science and technology management contributions; and 4 national excellent teachers. The university has 4 first-class tertiary general hospitals, 1 first-class tertiary specialized hospital, 8,100 sickbeds, and 17 affiliated hospitals, plus 8 libraries, 8 provincial research institutes, and 9 academic publications edited and published by the university. Hebei Normal University in Shijiazhuang, founded in 1902, is a provincial normal university centred on teacher education. Programmes also cover literature, science, engineering, and management. International students can enrol in education and related degree pathways.

Hebei University is the only key comprehensive university co-established by the province and the ministry. It is near Beijing: about 30 minutes by light rail, or 1–1.5 hours by train or car. Its predecessor was Tianjin Business University, founded by the French Society of Jesus; later stages included Tianjin Business Institute, Jinggu University, Tianjin Normal Institute, and Tianjin Normal University. The name Hebei University was confirmed in 1960, and the university moved to Baoding, a national historical and cultural city, in 1970. It has 29 colleges and 5 common teaching departments; 87 undergraduate majors; 189 master’s programs; 19 professional master’s programs; 37 doctoral programs; and 6 post-doctoral research stations ) It has partnerships with more than 100 universities worldwide, Confucius Institutes at Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Xavier University of Louisiana (USA), and language centers in Britain, Mongolia, South Korea, Russia, and Malaysia. Teachers have been sent overseas and international experts invited to lecture. International students have been enrolled since 1965. More than 3,000 doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, and short-term students from over 50 countries have studied here. The university can accept Chinese Government Scholarship students and is a new HSK test center

Hebei University of Economics and Business (HUEB) is in Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei Province. It is one of the top 10 universities in Hebei, with Economics, Management, and Law as main disciplines, and strengths also in Arts, Science, and Technology. Shijiazhuang has a warm temperate continental monsoon climate and tourism resources including scenery and historical sites. It is about one and a quarter hours by train from Beijing

Shijiazhuang Tiedao University (S.T.D.U.) is an applied engineering university that also covers humanities, sciences, economics, and management. It is supervised by central and local governments, mainly Hebei Province. Founded in 1950 as Shijiazhuang Railway Institute, it was a key railway engineering university in Hebei and nationwide. It was renamed Shijiazhuang Tiedao University in 2010. Faculty and staff number 1,414, including more than 844 full-time teachers and researchers (193 professors and 414 associate professors or equivalent), about 300 doctoral and master’s supervisors, and 23,792 full-time students (including 10,070 college students at Si-Fang Campus and 1,067 graduate students). More than 120 scholars serve as part-time professors. The university enrolls students nationwide under first-batch College Entrance Examination admission

Yanshan University, founded in 1978 and rooted in the academic lineage of Harbin Institute of Technology, is located in the coastal city of Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province. Its campus spans 330 hectares and includes nearly one million square metres of built space. The university hosts around 39,000 students and employs approximately 3,000 staff, including over 2,000 teaching staff. It operates twenty-one colleges and offers doctoral degrees across ten disciplines, master’s degrees in twenty-four fields, and sixty-one undergraduate programmes. Engineering forms a central focus, while faculties also cover science, humanities, economics, management, law, and education. The College of International Exchange supports language instruction, international student administration, and cross-cultural academic activities.
