Henan University of Technology (HAUT) is in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, and ranks among the leading universities in the province. The campus began in 1956 as a ministerial institute offering undergraduate programs. In 1998 management moved to Henan Province. In 2010 the university became co-sponsored by the Henan Provincial Government and the State Bureau of Grain. It is a comprehensive university with a strong engineering focus, offering undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degrees. It has 20 teaching units; 1 doctoral program for national special need; 18 first-level and 108 second-level master’s disciplines; 18 provincial key disciplines; 67 bachelor programs; 5 national-level characteristic specialties and 10 provincial ones. There are over 40,000 students, including more than 30,000 full-time undergraduates and junior college students, about 1,300 graduate students, nearly 100 international students, and about 8,500 students in continuing education. Faculty: 2,183 teaching staff with 1,600 full-time teachers, including 860 associate and full professors; 560 with doctoral degrees; 1 Changjiang Scholar; 3 specially appointed provincial professors; 14 doctoral supervisors; 21 professors with State Council special government allowance; 6 national-level excellent teachers and 40 at ministerial/provincial level; and over 200 Henan academic leaders and Excellent Talents Innovation Award holders. Campus area is 218 hectares, with about 890,000 m² of building space and an 87,000 m² sports field. Teaching and research equipment is valued at around 300 million RMB. The library holds about 3.62 million books, and the campus network was the first 10,000-megabit network in Henan Province.

Luohe is near major cultural sites including Shaolin Temple, Longmen Grottoes, Yin Ruins, and the Henan section of the ancient Silk Road.
