Founded in 1958 as Beijing Electric Power College, North China Electric Power University has grown into a national key university directly administered by China’s Ministry of Education. It operates two campuses: one in Beijing and another in Baoding, Hebei Province. Renmin University of China (RUC) is a comprehensive research university focused on humanities and social sciences. Shandong University is among the founding institutions of modern Chinese higher education. Its main body, Shandong Imperial College (Shandong Da Xue Tang), was established in 1901 as the second national university in China after the Imperial University of Peking, and the first university founded and run under a chartered constitution. Soochow University is located in Suzhou, historically known as “Paradise on Earth.” It is a key comprehensive provincial university in Jiangsu and one of China’s top 100 universities under Project 211 of the Ministry of Education. Named after the city (historically spelled Soochow; also written Suzhou University / Suda in pinyin), it was founded in 1900.
